Current Read: A Heart So Fierce And Broken

Let me start by saying that I absolutely LOVED A Curse So Dark And Lonely. The characters, the plot, the romance, everything about it. I don’t read many re-tellings but was pleasantly surprised by this one. As usual with books that grab my attention, I couldn’t put A Curse So Dark And Lonely down and I finished it within days. However, after I finished (holy sh**t, great ending), I went on to A Heart So Fierce And Broken; only to find the story, the vibe and the pace completely changed.

Don’t get me wrong – I love Grey. And his POV isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I also love Lia Mara, from what I’ve seen from her so far, she is my kind of woman. BUT, I strongly believe that if you start a series with a main character, you should at least still have them as one of the main characters in the next book. Harper was a major part of the whole entire plot, it was HER STORY, yet now I’m thrown back into the same world without her in it almost. And as a consequence, the pace becomes reaaaal slow, as you’re having to adjust again.

I guess for me, it feels like I’m re-starting a book instead of picking off where the last one stopped. I wish that Harper and Rhen still had a good amount of chapters, and have Grey and Lia Mara’s among them.

That’s why I feel like I’m struggling to get through A Heart So Fierce And Broken. Instead of picking my kindle up straight after work in anticipation of continuing this great series, I find myself browsing on my phone as a way of avoiding going back into the book.

Book 2 in the Cursebreaker series

I will not DNF this, as I enjoy all the characters, and I want to see how it plays out. But man, the pace is a problem.

Did anyone else feel the same as me on this one? What are your thoughts on the Cursebreaker series?

Until next time,

M

UPDATE: When I eventually got past the 30% mark, I must admit the book got interesting and started to flow better. The action is amazing throughout the second half of the book. Onto A Vow So Bold And Deadly!

  1. Yep, I felt just like that. I hate when the next book in a series stops following characters I really liked. I’m all for new characters but I hate starting over with basically only new characters. I’ve read all three in this series and the first was by far my favorite.

    1. Glad I’m not the only one who thinks that! Exactly, I really love the world and the story, I just wasn’t prepared for the complete change of POVs haha

  2. Oof unfortunate that this feels like an entirely different book! I hate when that happens. I’ve not read this series but I was considering it a while back. Might see a few more reviews of book 2 and then see 🙂

    1. It totally felt like a different book! But now that I’ve finished it, and book 3 (A Vow So Bold And Deadly), I can say that it was worth sticking it out and I would still recommend the series 😉

  3. […] second book changes POV which can interrupt your pace and makes the read less enjoyable (see this post I wrote about […]
