WWW Wednesday – 11th January 2023

This meme is hosted by Taking On A World Of Words so check out their post to join in.

Hi, fellow readers. If you’ve seen one of my WWW Wednesday posts before, you’ll know that I don’t do it weekly. That’s because I usually don’t get through books that fast so I just do this sporadically when it suits me and my reading style.

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently Reading

Circe, oh Circe. This is the first Greek mythology book I’ve been able to read and enjoy, so thank you and congratulations Madeline Miller!

This book isn’t a “I must know what happens next” type of story, but it’s one to slowly take in and appreciate the wonderful language and intense revelations. It spans over a thousand years so obviously the pace and style is different to your usual fantasies.

What I also like about Circe is that I’m learning about the names of the Gods and Godesses and who they are in relation to each other in a way that isn’t boring/info-dumpy/written by historians or philanthropists.

I am almost done now and very glad I cashed in my book gift voucher for it.

Recently Finished

The last book I read was Only A Monster (can kill a hero), and what a backward way of telling a story (in the best way)! This young adult fantasy written by Vanessa Len was an enticing story of magic, time travelling, family feuds, and a love triangle romance-type situation. Being on the journey with the “villains” and their feelings was certainly a new way of taking in the story.

Don’t be fooled by title though, it’s not about the monsters versus the heroes in your usual good v evil, black and white world. It’s about the greyness of morality and the difficulty dealing with that, and it’s done wonderfully.

Next Read

My next read is going to be The Song Of Achilles. Up until now I have avoided it because of the fact that I struggle to enjoy the way Greek mythology books are written. But as I’ve discovered through Circe, Madeline Miller’s telling of the tales are ones that reel me in.

The Song Of Achilles has been all over bookstagram, notably for being one to make people cry. I am anticipating a unique book with the potential of breaking my heart.

You can keep up to date with my reading and reviews on goodreads so lets be friends there!

Have you read any of these books? Or are they on your TBR?

Please leave a link for your WWW Wednesday in the comments 🙂

Until next time,

M
