If you’re a cosy little introvert like me, you have probably come across this word. Hygge. In fact, “the little book of hygge” became immensely popular not too long ago and has sold over a million copies. Full of Danish tips, Meik Wiking’s book is a nice read for anyone who is looking to make little changes to really start living a cosy life. This is the book that let me in on the secret, and explained the concept better.

Put simply; hygge is that moment when you’re sat on the sofa, nestled in a fluffy blanket, holding a steaming cup of tea. It’s also the feeling you get when you’re cuddling your dog, or your cat, or your bunny. Hygge is taking time to bake and the house fills with the intoxicating aroma of freshly-made bread. It’s when you are with an intimate group of friends, laughing by the fire. Or when you are having a peaceful evening on your own, surrounded by your favourite candles.
It’s possible that hygge is defined a little differently by each person. What is hygge to me, might not be hygge to you. Principally, it is the concept of enjoying and appreciating a cosy moment, at a time life has slowed down around you.
To live a hygge life, make sure to enjoy the simply pleasures.
